Allusive Veil

Hisham Sharif

Allusive Veil

Ayyam Gallery presents Allusive Veil, the first solo exhibition of the Bahraini artist Hisham Sharif at the gallery and in the United Arab Emirates, opening with a vernissage in the artist's presence on 23 September 2026. Sharif's practice offers a vulnerable and nuanced portrayal of life. His paintings — acrylic on canvas and on panel — take the form of stylised interiors and quiet scenes populated by sofas, mirrors, windows, vases and the occasional animal, rendered in saturated colour and flattened perspective. These rooms function as emotional landscapes: spaces in which solitude, longing, memory and desire are suggested rather than spelled out, as if seen through a veil. Works such as The Mistake, A Place Called Home, Behind the Mirror, Behind the Window, Chase, Moonlight, Solitude, Red Room with a Rothko, Red Sofa and The Sunset is Beautiful, Isn't it? invite viewers to linger and to read between the lines of everyday scenes, discovering the tenderness, unease and humour hidden in ordinary moments.
