Biography

Hisham Sharif (b. 1993) is a Bahraini painter whose canvases serve as emotional landscapes — dense, intuitive and haunted by fragments of personal and collective history. Initially trained in finance, he brings a structural clarity to themes of dislocation and inherited memory, building surfaces through layered washes, scraped textures and luminous shifts of tone that evoke seascapes, architectural ruins or intimate scenes. His recent work explores ritual, heritage and mythology, rooted in Bahrain and informed by his Persian ancestry. Exhibitions include his first solo show Frightening the Dark (2017), Sharif & Sharif (2022) and Allusive Veil at Ayyam Gallery, Dubai (2026), his first solo exhibition in the UAE. He won the Al Dana Award at the 50th Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, and his work is in the permanent collection of the Bahrain National Museum. (Source: Ayyam Gallery)
