About the work

Crumpled and painted aluminium is mounted onto stainless steel mesh, creating a relief that hovers between painting and sculpture. The folds of the metal catch the light and give the surface a shifting, topographic quality. Shown in In Search of Material Within Material at Leila Heller Gallery Dubai, the work reflects Nai's practice of transforming modest, distinctly Indian materials while preserving their history and memory.
