About this district
The far northern reach of the Asian Bosphorus, where the strait widens toward the Black Sea and the city finally thins into fishing villages and forest. Anadolu Kavağı is the last ferry stop, a village of seafood restaurants under the ruins of Yoros Castle, a Byzantine fortress on the headland above the narrowest point of the strait. Down the shore at Beykoz, a two-hundred-year-old leather and shoe factory has become Beykoz Kundura — a working film studio and cultural venue whose industrial halls now hold exhibitions, screenings and concerts by the water. Industry, ruin and forest, at the edge of the city.
