El-Manial

The district on Rhoda island in the southern Nile, holding the Manial Palace — six structures of Ottoman, Moorish, Persian and Andalusian design set in Persian-style gardens — along with the Manasterly Palace and the nilometer at the island's southern tip. Quieter and greener than the city around it, and one of the few places in Cairo where royal-era interiors survive intact.
