About the work

In Phantom, Dalal Al-Obaidi stages a hazy, half-remembered scene in which figures seem to dissolve into their surroundings. Painted for Frogs, Jazz & Blisters, her debut solo exhibition, the work belongs to a body of paintings about living between London and Kuwait, or 'being two Dalals'. The painting's muted palette and ghostly presences evoke the residue of experiences that linger after one has left a place behind.
