About the work

Lucky Number is a figurative oil painting that turns a moment of chance and anticipation into a charged interior scene. Painted for Frogs, Jazz & Blisters, her debut solo exhibition, the work belongs to a body of paintings about living between London and Kuwait, or 'being two Dalals'. Al-Obaidi uses gesture and spatial tension to suggest the thrill and unease of a night out, and the slow comedown that follows.
