About the work
A slender ceramic heron mounted on a tall plinth. In Farid ud-Din Attar's twelfth-century Persian poem The Conference of the Birds, a flock sets out across seven valleys in search of its king; Kameli's installation gives each bird a body and a voice. In the poem the heron cannot bear to leave the shore of the sea it loves; Kameli's sculpture lets that melancholy reluctance be heard through an embedded sound piece.
