Treasury Dome, Gold Souk
A 25-metre projection dome that crowns the world's largest indoor gold souk with ever-changing multimedia.
The Gold Souk in The Dubai Mall — billed as the world's largest indoor gold souk, with over 200 gold and jewellery retailers — is designed as a journey, and it culminates at the Treasury Dome: a roughly 25-by-13-metre atrium crowned by a dynamic projection ceiling that plays ever-changing multimedia shows, shifting with the time of day. Designed by Northpoint architects, the souk recreates the meandering corridors and themed courtyards of a traditional Arabian market, tracing the route of the caravan traders who once crossed the desert to trade gold — and the domed treasury is its climactic space, where the architecture opens overhead into projected light and imagery.
Exhibo editorial
Easy to walk under without looking up — which is the mistake. Pause beneath the dome and watch the projection cycle; the imagery changes through the day. It's the payoff at the heart of the Gold Souk's "journey" design, and pairs naturally with the bronze Camel Family at the north entrance and the Arabian stallion at the south, if you walk the souk end to end.
How to find it
At the centre of the Gold Souk inside The Dubai Mall, reached by following the souk's corridors from either the north (camels) or south (stallion) entrance. The domed atrium is the culminating space — look up for the projection ceiling.
