Dokki & Mohandessin

Two adjoining districts on the west bank, dense with apartment blocks, offices and commercial streets — and holding two of the city's more unexpected museums. The Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum occupies an early twentieth-century palace and holds European painting; the Om Kalthoum Museum is dedicated to the singer who defined Egyptian music for half a century.
