About this district

A fertile, spring-fed valley southwest of Amman where the desert plateau breaks into olive groves and orchards — and where one of the rarest ancient monuments in the country stands. About 17 kilometres out from the city, Wadi As-Seer leads to Iraq al-Amir, a village holding the Hellenistic palace of Qasr al-Abd, a field of caves, and a living crafts tradition. This is the district for heritage and landscape rather than galleries: a half-day into deep antiquity, an easy reach from the capital.
