Azza Al Qubaisi: Between Land and Sea
Leila Heller Gallery Dubai presents Between Land and Sea, an exhibition of work by the Emirati artist, designer and entrepreneur Azza Al Qubaisi, on view at the gallery's Alserkal Avenue space from 23 September to 10 November 2026. Recognised as the UAE's first jewellery designer, Al Qubaisi (b. 1978) works across jewellery and sculpture, combining materials that range from gold and silver to palm fronds and rubber tyres. Her practice is deeply rooted in Emirati heritage, the desert landscape and traditional crafts, and reflects a sustained commitment to sustainability, cultural preservation and innovation — transforming simple, everyday materials into contemporary art. Spanning more than two decades, the presentation brings together steel sculptures from the Foundation, Dune and Root series, the monumental Abaya (Metaphor) (2021), new works such as Land and Sea (2026), pieces from the Sustainability Series made in 2006 and revisited in 2026, and jewellery collections including Treasure, Al Joud, Bareeq Al Oud, Marine Symphony, Angel Tears and Pearl Kish. Together they trace the dialogue between desert and coast that has shaped life in the Emirates. Al Qubaisi holds a BA from London Guildhall University, a diploma from Chelsea College of Arts and an MA from HCT–CERT, Abu Dhabi. Her work is held in collections including those of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Etihad Airways, the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival and Tashkeel, Dubai.
