Biography
Dr. Karima Al Shomely is an Emirati artist, visual researcher and educator whose prints, photographs, paintings and installations have been shown widely in the UAE and internationally. Recent exhibitions include “Buqshe”, University of Exeter, UK (2025); “Their Stories” at ECC, Venice (2024); and “Sahhara Hidden Adornments” at Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah (2022). She has exhibited at Expo 2020 Dubai and in Saudi Arabia, Paris, Berlin, Houston, London, New York, Seoul and Bonn. Awards include First Place in the Sultan Al-Owais Award (2018, 2005, 2002), a prize at the 5th Egyptian International Print Triennial, Cairo (2006), and second prize in the installation category of the Sharjah International Art Biennial (2001).
