Curatorial Ethos
The foundation curates programmes that explore the manifold ways Arab artists have responded to socio-political events and the human condition across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Its curatorial ethos centres on fostering critical dialogue around contemporary Arab art practices while highlighting regional artistic exchanges, diasporic narratives, and the evolution of abstraction and modernism beyond national borders.
Barjeel Art Foundation is an independent, UAE-based initiative based in Sharjah that manages, preserves, and exhibits an extensive collection of Modern and Contemporary Arab Art. The foundation fosters critical dialogue around contemporary practices by hosting in-house exhibitions, lending works to international forums, and producing publications and interactive public programmes. It also maintains a long-term exhibition partnership with the Sharjah Art Museum and actively develops educational initiatives for local and global audiences.
