About this district

The historic Christian quarter in the northeastern corner of the old walled city, named for one of Damascus's seven ancient gates. Bab Touma is cobbled lanes, courtyard houses, churches and — increasingly — the grassroots galleries and cultural spaces that make it the most creatively active corner of the Old City. It combines heritage charm with a living, community-driven art scene in restored Damascene homes. The register is heritage-and-grassroots: old stone, young energy.
