About this district

The prestigious modern quarter northwest of the old city — tree-lined streets, embassies, elegant cafés and villas — and historically the home of Damascus's most internationally ambitious galleries. Abou Roumaneh and the adjacent Rawda and Malki are where the affluent, contemporary side of the city's art world concentrated: this is the district of the white-cube commercial gallery rather than the heritage courtyard. The register is upmarket and contemporary, with a strong recent history.
