Curatorial Ethos
The curatorial ethos centers on preserving modern and contemporary Syrian art archives while fostering critical thinking and capacity building within the regional artistic community. Through exhibitions, scholarly journals, and collaborative networks, the foundation aims to repair cultural damage, document artistic history, and connect past achievements with future creative output.
Operating as a non-profit arts initiative since its 2016 transformation, the institution preserves and promotes modern and contemporary Syrian art through exhibitions, the free MASA digital archive, and academic publishing. Originally established in 1986 in Homs and relocated to Damascus’s Rawda neighborhood in 1993, it serves as a vital platform for capacity building, critical research, and international cultural exchange. The foundation actively bridges historical Syrian artistic achievements with future creative production while supporting community resilience and cultural documentation.
