About the work
At 160 centimetres, Perpetual Gaze sits at eye level — the one work in the installation that meets you directly rather than asking you to look up. Hamzeh builds from his own typeface, FHV, so the forms are his own invention even when they read as ancient. The title names something the work actually does: it holds its position in a room and doesn't look away. Whether that constitutes a gaze or simply a presence is a question the steel leaves open.
