Édouard Vuillard
As a prelude to the exhibition “Vuillard: Intimate Theaters” (23 March – 25 July 2027), this display brings together several recent gifts to the collection, spanning painting, pastel and the decorative arts. The presentation highlights the richness of Édouard Vuillard’s practice and the way he explored the idea of the decorative across a wide range of techniques. Among the works on view are two important overdoor panels made to complete the decorative ensemble Public Gardens – five panels of which are already in the Musée d’Orsay – and a group of pieces from the dinner service designed for Jean Schopfer, a unique and in many ways experimental work that met with great critical success. Curated by Anne Robbins, Curator of Paintings, and Élise Dubreuil, Chief Curator of Decorative Arts, Musée d’Orsay.
