Curatorial Ethos
The platform prioritizes experimental, research-based practices and alternative space-making, emphasizing collective infrastructures, embodied archiving, and the preservation of cultural memory within and beyond Iran. Through residencies, publications, video libraries, and collaborative exhibitions, it provides a critical framework for Iranian artists and diaspora practitioners to explore institutional critique and archival resistance.
Sazmanab operates as an independent artist-run space and residency programme founded by Sohrab Kashani, dedicated to experimental and research-based artistic practices. Originally established in Tehran in 2008 and later structured as the Sazmanab Platform for Contemporary Arts and Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art, it serves as a multidisciplinary hub for exhibitions, events, and long-term projects. Since 2023, the initiative functions as Sazmanab Dept., a Rotterdam-based curatorial studio that collaborates with global institutions while maintaining a strong focus on Iranian contemporary art and archival practices.
