Curatorial Ethos
As a qualified association representing an important aspect of art, culture, and modern thought rooted in prehistory, the society serves as a professional hub for Iraqi plastic artists. Its programme focuses on representing a wide variety of artistic disciplines through regular exhibitions and organizational support across the country.
The Iraqi Plastic Artists Society is a comprehensive association established in 1958 (or 1959) to represent all artists, including painters, sculptors, ceramists, and architects. Headquartered in the Al Mansour District of Baghdad, the society maintains branches across 13 provinces and holds regular art exhibitions. The headquarters building was designed by architect and painter Kahtan Al Madfai on land donated by the Gulbenkian Foundation.
