Curatorial Ethos
Hewar functions as a vital refuge and dynamic hub for Iraqi artists, fostering artistic and intellectual exchange through multidisciplinary events including music, poetry, and literature alongside visual arts exhibitions.
Founded in 1992 in Baghdad’s Waziriya district, Hewar Art Gallery operates as a vital contemporary art space and cultural refuge for Iraqi artists. The venue hosts over 300 exhibitions alongside music, poetry, and literature events, while its on-site café serves as a regular meeting point for students and cultural figures. Beyond visual art presentations, the gallery actively supports the local creative ecosystem by helping establish artistic collectives and civil society organizations.
