About the work

A tall cut-out panel built up like a totem: at its summit a nude woman stands with a hoop around her waist and trays balanced on her outstretched arms, while below her a man in white crouches and other figures, a serpent-like form and a dark central mass intertwine. The earliest work in the exhibition, it anticipates the female figures of the recent Dames series.
