About the work

Field Seven is one of the monumental habotai silk panels, each three by five and a half metres, that make up Rohini Devasher's installation Latent Fields. Suspended from the ceiling, the panels carry imagery inspired by sunspots and other solar phenomena, shifting in scale from the microscopic to the atmospheric as if leading the viewer through the body of a star. Drawing on technologies used to observe distant stars and subatomic particles, Devasher layers luminous forms and delicate tracings to present the atmosphere as a palimpsest of cosmic time. Presented in The sky held it, the earth remembered at Ishara Art Foundation, an exhibition on land, water and the cosmos as living archives of memory and ecological change.
