About the work
The first of three large canvases devoted to earth in Moritz's cycle on the four elements. Painted intuitively and without preliminary sketches, the work gathers dense, weighty strokes that lend the surface an earthy heaviness, its colours seeming to settle and sediment across the picture plane.
