Biography
Sarker Protick (b. 1986) is an artist based in Dhaka who works with photography and moving image to explore the layered relationships between landscape, history, ecology and power. His long-term projects observe how places are transformed over time by social, environmental and political forces. His series Dhaka 1217, comprising 135 black-and-white photographs made between 2011 and 2026, documents the transformation of a one-square-mile area around the neighbourhood where he was born and still lives, and forms the basis of a book of the same title.
