Biography
Margot Bergman (b. 1934) is an American painter known for her uncanny, emotionally raw portraits of imagined women. From the mid-1990s she painted into anonymous landscapes and still lifes bought in Chicago thrift shops, coaxing faces out of their existing forms; in 2012 she set this practice aside and turned to blank canvases, working with a looser, more expressionistic hand. She is represented by Anton Kern Gallery, New York, where her solo exhibitions include Rogues Gallery (2024) and On the other hand (2026).
