About

The Noguchi Museum – officially The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum – is a museum and sculpture garden in Long Island City, Queens, designed and created by the Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988). Opened in 1985 in a converted industrial building across the street from the artist’s studio, it was the first museum in the United States to be established by a living artist to show his own work. It presents a comprehensive collection of Noguchi’s sculptures, models, drawings and Akari light sculptures, together with his archive and a programme of changing exhibitions.
