Continuing The Drawing Center’s tradition of exhibitions drawn from notable private collections, curator Olivia Shao has selected around fifty works on paper from the more than 1,000 drawings held in the Burger Collection. Together they form a focused visual essay on shared historical, poetic and philosophical concerns, with Hong Kong and New York as twin points of reference and Eastern thought and Western philosophy as guiding frameworks. Bringing together twenty-nine artists from around the world – among them Kai Althoff, Alvin Baltrop, Fiona Banner, Simone Fattal, Theaster Gates, Robert Gober, Harmony Hammond, Alicja Kwade, Shirin Neshat, Meret Oppenheim, Blinky Palermo, Julia Phillips, Anne Truitt, Franz West, Jack Whitten, Tadanori Yokoo and Zarina – “Form, Shadow, Motion” fills the entirety of The Drawing Center’s galleries before travelling in an expanded form to Asia Society Hong Kong in 2027. The exhibition is organised by Olivia Shao, Burger Collection & TOY Meets Art Curator, and supported by The Drawing Center’s Exhibition Fund. The catalogue is co-published with Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
