A large oil painting on canvas of 1958 by Faiq Hassan, often described as the father of Iraqi modern art. Built from angular, boldly coloured planes, it shows rural labourers at work, reflecting his lifelong interest in the Iraqi working class. Hassan led the Al-Ruwad (Pioneers) group, and the work is shown in What Lingers in the Artist Mind alongside the Baghdad Modern Art Group to illustrate the wider artistic currents of 1950s Iraq.
