An abstract oil painting on canvas of 1961 by Shakir Hassan Al Said, who co-founded the Baghdad Modern Art Group with Jewad Selim in 1951. Fluid, calligraphic contours interlock with fields of blue, white and red, pointing towards the artist’s later explorations of the Arabic letter and the dimension of the unseen. The painting appears in What Lingers in the Artist Mind, which follows the evolution of the group’s two leaders and its wider legacy.
