Baghdadiat is a mixed-media work on hardboard by Jewad Selim, one of the two founders of the Baghdad Modern Art Group in 1951. Dated 1956, it belongs to the artist’s celebrated Baghdadiat series, in which scenes of everyday Baghdad life are drawn in a delicate, linear style rooted in the city’s own history and visual traditions. The work stands among the key references for the exhibition What Lingers in the Artist Mind, which traces the group’s aims of joining local heritage to global modernism.
