Orientalist art and cross-cultural dialogue on Al Maha Island (opening 2029)

About

The museum reads how cultures have watched and pictured one another, and will host dialogue through art, scholarship and the Lusail Institute before and after its doors open.

Lusail Museum is a future Qatar Museums institution on Al Maha Island in Lusail, north of Doha, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and due to open in 2029. It will house the world's largest collection of Orientalist paintings, alongside photography, film, fashion and decorative arts that record encounters between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Arab world. The Lusail Institute already runs research and public conversations ahead of opening. The building, conceived as a vertically layered souk, will anchor the island as a place for exhibition, education and debate.
