Ma'alesh
Ten Palestinian embroiderers and one Irish tailor work with linen, cotton and sheep's wool to make pieces of testimony, remembrance and truth, honouring those who document reality with courage in the darkest of times. The exhibition presents a series of press jackets dedicated to the more than 200 journalists killed in Gaza. Hanging alongside them is a long list of the journalists' names, so that each is honoured by name. The show brings together the work of Lou McGowan, an Irish tailor-artist, community worker and researcher from Belfast, and Mutarizat Al Salam, a collective of Palestinian embroiderers based in the Gaza Refugee Camp in Jerash, Jordan.
