Tiraz Centre (Widad Kawar Home for Arab Dress)

The centre’s programme focuses on preserving and interpreting Palestinian, Jordanian, and broader Arab textile heritage through rigorous archival work, contemporary exhibition design, and public education. It emphasizes the historical narratives embedded in traditional dress, embroidery techniques, and weaving practices, often contextualizing them within themes of displacement, cultural resilience, and living craft traditions.

Tiraz Centre, located in Jabal Amman, houses the world’s largest collection of Palestinian, Jordanian, and Arab traditional dress, comprising over 2,000 costumes and weavings from the 19th and 20th centuries. The institution preserves the Widad Kawar Collection while actively promoting Arab living heritage through curated exhibitions, public tours, and scholarly publications. Operating three days a week, the centre also facilitates venue rentals, international loan programs, and community engagement activities focused on textile arts and cultural history.
