About
The Jesuit Cultural Center supports a meaningful life through arts and culture, nurturing young people who contribute positively to society.
The Jesuit Cultural Center of Alexandria (JCC) is an independent non-profit institution founded by the Jesuits in November 1954. Its programme focuses on the formation of young adults through the arts, ideas and cultural leadership, organised in two main pillars: cinema — a filmmaking school, cinema club and workshops running for some twenty years — and arts and culture, including performances, theatre and music workshops, exhibitions and arts management. It operates as an event-based venue.
Why this museum matters
Exhibo editorial
Port Said Street in Cleopatra, next to the Armed Forces Hospital — a cultural house the Jesuits opened in November 1954 and that has stayed independent and non-profit through every change Alexandria has seen since. It is not a place you visit to look at a collection. It is a place where things happen: a film school that has trained a generation of Alexandrian filmmakers over the last twenty years, a cinema club, theatre laboratories, Sufi nights and recordings, music workshops, exhibitions, book clubs. For a city whose cultural life is often told through its past, this is where you see the present being made.
