Curatorial Ethos
Guided by the philosophy of 'continuing to provide artworks loved by those who love art,' ShugoArts aims to create new value in art history through long-term collaboration with its represented artists. The gallery focuses on supporting individual artistic practices to maximize their expression while also contributing to institutional collections through the handling of significant historical works.
ShugoArts is a contemporary art gallery established in Tokyo in 2000 by founder Shugo Sato, building on his experience at the former Sato Gallery. Located in Roppongi, the gallery represents a diverse roster of Japanese and international artists spanning multiple generations, including Lee Kit, Masaya Chiba, Yasumasa Morimura, and Yukio Fujimoto. It operates both a primary market program for living artists and a secondary market segment focusing on masterpieces from 20th-century art.
