Curatorial Ethos

The gallery presents artists from Japan and the surrounding region whose works demonstrate distinctive sensibilities unaffected by fleeting stylistic trends. Its programme focuses on the international development of contemporary artists, featuring exhibitions that range from photography and printmaking to large-scale mythological themes.

Mizuma Art Gallery was established in Tokyo in 1994 by Executive Director Sueo Mizuma and operates a primary space in Shinjuku alongside a location at Gillman Barracks in Singapore. The gallery actively participates in international art fairs such as Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Dubai, celebrating three decades of developing contemporary artists from diverse aesthetic backgrounds. It has previously operated collaborative spaces in New York and an artist residency in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, reflecting its long-standing commitment to the Asian contemporary art market.
