Curatorial Ethos
The Substation serves as a platform for the development and showcase of diverse contemporary arts practices, including theatre, dance, film, music, and visual arts. Its programme focuses on the discovery of new talent, the value of diversity, and the expansion of artistic dialogue through interdisciplinary experimentation and community engagement.
The Substation is an independent, non-profit arts company in Singapore founded in 1990 by the late Kuo Pao Kun. Originally housed in a conservation site on Armenian Street for 30 years, it moved out of its physical premises in 2021 to operate as a hybrid entity producing programming beyond physical walls. The organization nurtures independent creative practitioners through multi-disciplinary curation, residencies, and community gathering events across Singapore and Southeast Asia.
