Curatorial Ethos
The gallery’s programme focuses on comprehensive exhibition surveys of significant yet historically overlooked visual artists and photographers, bridging contemporary and historic practices. It is dedicated to supporting the local Bowery Arts community while undertaking groundbreaking rediscoveries of both local New York and global international artists across painting, sculpture, and photography.
Established in 1995 by co-founders James Cavello and Margarite Almeida, Westwood Gallery NYC is a commercial gallery located at 262 Bowery in New York City. The institution specializes in recontextualizing art history by rediscovering, preserving, and archiving the works of overlooked artists, particularly those associated with the local Bowery Arts community. It represents and manages the estates of several significant figures, including Will Insley, Roy Schatt, Constantin Antonovici, James Juthstrom, Charles Hinman, and Lazhar Mansouri.
