Curatorial Ethos
ACA Galleries is dedicated to identifying and championing profound visual storytellers, with a curatorial focus on narrative figurative artists whose technical mastery challenges conventions. The program emphasizes long-term career nurturing and highlights socially engaged art, spanning 19th-century, Modern, and Contemporary American and European painting, sculpture, and photography.
Founded in 1932 by Herman Baron, ACA Galleries is one of New York’s most enduring art institutions, originally established as one of only three galleries dedicated exclusively to American art. Operating from its main location at 173 Tenth Avenue and a second space at 529 West 20th Street, the gallery has mounted over 800 exhibitions and published more than 400 books across nine decades. It maintains a legacy-focused approach to representing artists while serving as a trusted advisor to collectors and institutions.
