Curatorial Ethos

GVCC’s curatorial ethos follows the deep mutations of Moroccan art, transitioning from foundational Orientalist and modernist legacies to actively championing contemporary counter-cultural movements. The gallery currently prioritizes post-internet and digital practices, fostering work that critically examines how networked technologies reshape visual language, social structures, and cultural identity.

Founded in 1946, Galerie Venise Cadre (GVCC) is the oldest art gallery in Morocco, historically renowned for exhibiting major Orientalist painters and hosting first exhibitions for pivotal Moroccan modern artists. Operating spaces in Casablanca and Paris, the institution has consistently documented the country's artistic evolution, bridging classical orientalism, modernism, and early contemporary market practices. Today, GVCC dedicates its programme to post-internet art, presenting a new generation of Moroccan artists who investigate the social and cultural impacts of digital networks through net art, web aesthetics, and online practices.
