Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien

Curatorial Ethos

The institution focuses on current social and cultural issues, emphasizing meaningful contextualization, diversity, internationality, and local relevance in its programming. It serves as a non-commercial platform for contemporary art that engages with societal processes through group and thematic exhibitions.

Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien is an exhibition space for contemporary art located in a former hospital building on Mariannenplatz in Berlin, operating as an organization of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Council. The venue hosts approximately six mid-size exhibitions annually, alongside tours, films, discussions, and artist talks, while maintaining a collection of around 450 artworks by artists associated with the Kreuzberg area. It has been directed by Stéphane Bauer since 2002 and relies on third-party funding to support its projects.
