Galerie von Bartha — gallery cover

Curatorial Ethos

The gallery champions artists who carry forward the modern tradition into the present, emphasizing imaginative expressions and critical discourse across a diverse range of mediums and generations. Its programme bridges twentieth-century avant-garde movements with contemporary practices, fostering international careers through exhibitions, publications, and public commissions.

Established in 1970 by Margareta and Miklos von Bartha, von Bartha is a Swiss cross-generational gallery operating across two distinct architectural spaces in Basel and Copenhagen. The family-run institution champions both historical modern movements and contemporary practitioners through a year-round programme of exhibitions, publications, and public commissions. Its Basel venue occupies over 700 square metres in a reimagined former garage at Kannenfeldplatz 6, while its Copenhagen outpost is housed in a historic lighthouse. The gallery maintains free admission and hosts up to five contemporary exhibitions annually alongside special projects and events.
