Curatorial Ethos

The programme centres on contemporary art, sculpture, installation, projection, and performance, prioritizing interdisciplinary dialogue between visual art, music, and theater. Filter 4 functions as a flexible platform where artists develop experimental projects that engage directly with the venue’s historic industrial architecture and unique acoustic properties.

Filter 4 is a seasonal contemporary art space and cultural association housed in a historic 1903–1905 slow sand filtration plant on Basel’s Bruderholz hill. Operating from May through October, the venue presents exhibitions alongside interdisciplinary performances, music, and theater within its distinctive vaulted architecture. The space also runs a bar and restaurant, and actively invites artists to submit project proposals for its flexible, acoustically unique environment.
