About the work
A patinated bronze from Khojasteh's series of reclining figures, derived from idealised Renaissance marble bodies associated with masculinity and power. Softened in the making, the figure lies limbless and powerless, an ambiguous body that may be a former ruler or a survivor born from the ashes. Shown in May the Tree No Longer Burn When I Wake at Carbon 12, Khojasteh's first body of work made after leaving Iran, which imagines the gallery as a twisted Persian garden overlooking a landscape of ash.
