About the work
One of Khojasteh's Garden Landscapes, a doomed panorama inspired by Vincent van Gogh's Wheatfield with Crows (1890), an image that resurfaced for the artist during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. Broken horizons, paths that lead nowhere and charged, unstable colour are worked over repeatedly, leaving a continuous surface marked by the artist's hand. Shown in May the Tree No Longer Burn When I Wake at Carbon 12, Khojasteh's first body of work made after leaving Iran, which imagines the gallery as a twisted Persian garden overlooking a landscape of ash.
