About the work
Shot on 16mm film in West Berlin in 1969 and shown at documenta 5 in 1972, Life–Death abandons linear narrative for a sequence of portraits, body studies and staged scenes. Sieverding, Stephan Runge, Holger Bombusch and Othello appear in shifting, androgynous roles, while a soundtrack improvised by Kraftwerk in 1972 lends the film a trance-like aura. Transferred to digital video (1969/2024); variable dimensions.
