Biography

Kerstin Brätsch (born 1979 in Hamburg) is a German contemporary artist, primarily known as a painter, who lives and works in New York City. She also works collaboratively as DAS INSTITUT, with artist Adele Röder, and as KAYA, with artist Debo Eilers, and is professor of painting and drawing at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg. Her practice continually expands painting into other media and materials, drawing on ancient and artisanal techniques such as stucco marmo, marbling and mosaic, as well as works on transparent Mylar and series of coloured-pencil drawings, exploring transformation, light, colour and chance.
