Biography

Bea Scaccia (b. 1978, Veroli, Italy) is a painter who lives and works in New York. Her paintings stage elaborate nocturnal interiors in which accumulations of fabric, wigs, costume jewelry, shoes, bows, tassels, and faux fur come together to suggest faceless, puppetlike figures. Situated between still life and figuration, they achieve their muted, matte surfaces through a mix of gesso and acrylic, reworked with airbrush and finished with details in oil. Her solo exhibitions include My Hope Chest at the Katonah Museum of Art, New York (2021), and Groomed at Gagosian, New York (2026), curated by Francesco Bonami. Group exhibitions include Homemade at Magazzino Italian Art, Cold Spring (2020); Fabrizio Clerici: L’atlante del meraviglioso at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome (2022); and Fantastica, the 18th Quadriennale d’Arte at Palazzo Esposizioni, Rome (2025–26).
